Fido Facts

We know you have questions about pet CBD. That’s why Fido Therapy put together this list of FAQs for you. (Additional CBD FAQs are listed in a separate page.) As always if you have any questions about their products or other pet CBD products on our website, please contact us. And if you have any questions about this or any other information you’ve read we suggest contacting your veterinarian.

Both humans and dogs utilize CBD in the same way through what is referred to as the endocannabinoid system. This is a part of the nervous system that actually picks up the compound and redistributes it throughout the body. It is like a communication system between the brain and the body.

This is a tricky question to answer. It depends on what you are using the CBD for. Most see an effect when absorbed orally within 20-40 minutes or for ingested treats 45-90 minutes. For some it may take longer.

With a simple search on the Web via any search engine, you will find thousands of pet owners claiming positive results in pets, but more importantly, Fido Therapy's customer feedback includes comments of their own personal experiences. Check out the Sea King CBD blog for article that explains more about this question.

No, Fido Therapy’s CBD has <0.3% THC. Our most recent lab results for 2021 have non-detectable THC in the lab reports.

Based out of a small farming town in Colorado close to the Kansas border where the air is fresh, the water is pure, and the area is pesticide-free.

As with humans, there are multiple factors to consider including weight, age and tolerance. We would suggest starting off gradually with any form of CBD, using small or even micro-doses. This may take time, so be patient and consistent with your dosing for a minimum of 5-7 days. Once you have determined the sweet spot for the ideal dose for your pet, you will just need to go on a maintenance plan for their daily dose. Some pets may need a few drops a day of tincture, others may need multiple doses over the course of the day. The same is with the treats, but consider the absorption amount is different with ingesting product versus taking it orally. We would recommend giving your pet 0.25-0.5mg of CBD for every pound of bodyweight, but it is best to seek the advice from your veterinarian to determine what the best dosing is for your pet. The below dosing is based on a once a day serving and we’d suggest for beginners to start with smaller doses and work your way up. Again, take your time and be patient. Every animal is different. Consult with your veterinarian if you have any questions or concerns before or during a trial and maintenance phase.

For Treats:

  • Pets under 10lbs: Split 1, 5mg treat in half for 2.5mg of CBD
  • Pets 10-25lbs: 1-2, 5mg treats per day
  • Pets 25-50lbs: Up to 3, 5mg treats per day
  • Pets 50-75lbs: 1-1 1/2, 15mg treats per day
  • Pets 75-100lbs: 1 1/2-2, 15mg treats per day
  • Pets over 100lbs: 2-3, 15mg treats per day

For Tincture:

  • Pets under 25lbs: 300mg tincture, 0.25ml dropper (2.5mg CBD) 2x a day
  • Pets 25-50lbs: 300mg tincture, 0.5ml dropper (5mg CBD) 2x a day
  • Pets 50-75lbs: 300 or 600mg tincture, 0.75ml dropper (15mg CBD) 2x a day
  • Pets 75-100lbs: 600mg tincture, 1ml dropper (20mg CBD) 2x a day
  • Pets over 100lbs: 600mg tincture, 1.25ml dropper (25mg CBD) 2x a day

As for all the treats and tinctures, adjust the dosing as you see fit for your pet. Some may need more, others may need less. You are in control. If you have any questions regarding dosing, always consult your veterinarian for what is best for your pet.

No, it cannot overdose on THC or have THC toxicity since Fido Therapy only offers pet products with less than 0.3% THC. It is important to note that CBD may interact with other medications your pet may be taking so it is best to seek advice from your veterinarian before adding CBD to your pet’s daily routine.

The best way to get the effects of CBD into the endocannabinoid system is to absorb it orally under the tongue or in the gums. So when you give the tincture to your pet orally, try to hold their snoots a little longer if possible so it can absorb immediately. Another option is to let them lick it from the palm of your hand or place in their food bowl. On the other hand, some pets will not like having anything placed in their mouth so it is best to ingest it. This means the CBD will have to go through the stomach and the digestion process thereby absorbing only some of the CBD. This process will take more time. Every dog responds differently to CBD oil, and we encourage you to start slow and start small. Always observe your dog after giving them any new supplement for the first time.

In general, here’s a rule of thumb: CBD given directly to your dog’s mouth or gums (sublingual absorption) – Allow 20-60 minutes. CBD given in your dog’s food or as a treat (absorbed in stomach), allow 45 – 90 minutes.

CAUTION: Do not place the dropper directly into the mouth of your pet. This could cross-contaminate the CBD that's in the bottle.
